MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Shaw University women's bowling team place second in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division at the conferences Event III at the Rocky Mount Bowling Center hosted by Chowan University over the weekend.
The Lady Bears knocked down 6, 298 pins and posted 4-5 record in the three-day tournament. Shaw recorded three wins on day one of the traditional play, defeating Livingstone (675-602), Johnson C. Smith (564-520) and Saint Augustine's (577-555). On Day two, the Lady Bears won (646-527) over JCSU and (732-670) against Livingstone but fell to Saint Augustine and Fayetteville State
Sunday's matches were under the Baker system scoring and Shaw had a little trouble, falling in three matches before defeating SAU (641-591).
Freshman Necarri Moore (Portsmouth, VA) received a Rookie High Average accolade for rolling the highest amongst all rookies in the Southern Division at 166.4, which was a team-best this weekend. Sophomore Denise Cury (Araraquara-Sp, Brazil) ranked second on the team in average (123.80).
Fayetteville State finished first overall in the South with 8, 262 total team match pins and a record of 9-0.
Shaw will compete again in the CIAA Bowling Championship on Mar. 23-25 in Chesapeake, Va.
