RALEIGH, N.C. – After two weeks off from competition, the Shaw University women's softball team will look to get back into the swing of things with a doubleheader at Livingstone College on Friday, Apr. 6 in their Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division opener.
Game one is set for 1 p.m. at the Jaycee-optimist Sports Complex on S. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave, Salisbury, N.C.
Prior to an extended break, the Lady Bears were doing well, coming off a two-game win-streak and 4-2 mark against the Northern Division opponents within the CIAA. Shaw had concluded the CIAA round up with a 4-2 win over Bowie State and a 17-5 victory against Virginia Union on Mar. 18.
Senior Zahrea Lewis (Savannah, GA) leads the offensive attack for Shaw, batting .311, 14 RBI, five runs scored and one home run on the year. Senior Brittany Kline (Choctaw Beach, FL) has a batting average of .306 while junior Christine Ngeve (Greensboro, NC) is second best on the team in RBI's with 12 to go along with two doubles and one triple on a clip of .267.
LC is scheduled to play Morris College Thursday before their meeting with Shaw. Livingstone enters Friday's contests on a nine-game losing skid, the Lady Blue Bears are 0-9 on the 2018 season. Alexis Smoot leads the Lady Blue Bears with a batting average of .238 and is responsible for five of the LC's 16 total hits on the year.
Shaw has won the last 11-games against Livingstone, dating back to Mar. 28, 2012.
