RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's tennis team suffered a 7-2 loss to the University of Charleston (WV) in its final match of the 2018 regular season Saturday afternoon at Worthdale Park.
Shaw concluded the regular season with a 3-10 record while UC improves to 12-7 on the year.
The Bears won No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 decision from duo Oscar Del Granado (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) and Ngonidzashe Makamba (Mabelreign Harare, Zimbabwe) but trailed 2-1 heading into singles competition after the Golden Eagles secured wins at doubles 2 and 3, respectively.
Del Granado was a 6-3, 6-3 victor at No. 1 singles while Destiny Udofe (Brampton, ON) pushed things to a third set before ultimately falling short, 6-0, 3-6, 3-6. UC took wins at No. 2 4, 5 and 6 to earn the 7-2 match over Shaw.
