BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. - The Shaw University men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 defeat to Montreat College Wednesday evening at the Howard Fisher Memorial Field.
With the loss, Shaw falls to 3-4-1 on the year while the Cavaliers improved to 5-2 overall.
Freshman goal keeper Santiago Farre (Barcelona, Spain) tallied two saves while junior Thilo Wilkes (Karlstadt, Germany) and sophomore Zola Mafolo Rodriguez (South London, England) had three and two shots on goals which accounted for 5-of-7 attempts for the Bears.
Despite holding the Cavaliers scoreless in the first half, Shaw was unable to score themselves in the opening. The Bears struggled to generate quality chances in the early part of the second stanza as the Cavaliers broke through in the 58th minute with the game's decisive goal.
Montreat's defense prevented Shaw from attempting a shot in the final minutes as they would score all five goals in the second half for the victory.
Shaw will return to action on Monday, Oct. 2 at Mount Olive. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
